Design and features
The ID.2 will closely follow the ID.2all concept, featuring:
- A compact, Polo-inspired silhouette, with a short front overhang and wide stance.
- Full-width LED light bar, adding a futuristic touch.
- Aero-optimized wheels, improving efficiency.
- Minimalist interior, with a flat-top steering wheel and physical controls.
Volkswagen has confirmed that the production model will retain most of the concept’s styling, ensuring a modern yet familiar design.
Powertrain and range
The ID.2 will be built on VW’s new MEB Entry platform, offering:
- Front-wheel drive, unlike the rear-wheel-drive ID.3 and ID.4.
- 38 kWh and 56 kWh battery options, with a claimed range of up to 450 km.
- 125 kW fast charging, allowing 10-80% charge in just 20 minutes.
Volkswagen is also developing a GTI variant, which will prioritize sharp handling and driving fun over outright power.
Market position and expected pricing
Volkswagen aims to price the ID.2 at €25,000 (INR 22 lakh), making it one of the most affordable EVs in Europe. The model will compete with Renault 5 EV, Peugeot e-208, and upcoming budget-friendly EVs from Stellantis.
Volkswagen is going all-in on affordability, and the ID.2 could be a game-changer. The 450 km range and fast charging make it practical, while the GTI variant promises serious driving fun. The flat-top steering wheel and physical controls are a welcome change, proving that VW is listening to customer feedback.
