Written by Nizam Shaikh

German car brand Volkswagen might be planning to launch the bigger 7-seater Tiguan Allspace in India. The Tiguan short wheelbase version is available in India, but the new Tiguan Allspace the long wheelbase model may replace the current standard model Tiguan to give a fitting fight to the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas G4 and Skoda Kodiaq.

The current Volkswagen Tiguan is powered by a 2.0-litre, TDI, turbocharged diesel, common rail direct injection motor producing 143 PS of power @ 4000 RPM and 340 Nm of torque @ 1750-2750 RPM mated to a 7-speed DSG (Dual Shift Gearbox) Automatic Transmission. The Tiguan comes with 4Motion (All Wheel Drive).

The Tiguan measures 4486mm in length, 1839mm in width and 1672mm in height with a 2677mm wheelbase and a kerb weight of 1720 kg. The Tiguan seats 5 people and has a boot space capacity of 615-litres. The 7-seater Tiguan Allspace is 226mm longer than the standard and has a 110mm longer wheelbase than the standard 5-seater.

On the interior, the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace gets a 9.2 inch Discover Pro system with gesture control and a multifunction steering wheel along with other standard gadgetry which includes climate control, sunroof, leather upholstery, smartphone connectivity, cruise control, etc.

Dimension VW Tiguan VW Tiguan Allspace

Width 1,839 mm 1,839 mm
Height 1,673 mm 1,673 mm

The current Comfortline Volkswagen Tiguan is priced at INR 28,07,000 ex-Showroom and the Highline Volkswagen Tiguan is priced at INR 31,46,000 ex-Showroom. The new long-wheelbase 7-seater will definitely be priced above the standard Tiguan but Volkswagen may ditch the 4 wheel drive system and introduce a 2 wheel drive model only to keep prices in check.
