Volkswagen is expected to badge the variants of its entire line-up based on the torque each car produces. The company believes that this will help to differentiate between models more effectively.
Two other German brands to change the way their cars were named were Audi and Mercedes-Benz. There is no update from when Volkswagen will adopt this torque based nomenclature, but it will be applicable to the Asian markets.
Malaysia will be the first market to get new names. The Passat CC will be badged as Passat CC 280 TSI.
For a better example, with Indian market in mind; Volkswagen could rename the Polo 1.2L TSI which produces 175 Nm of torque as Polo 175 TSI.
Do you think this will confuse someone who is not very familiar about cars on the technical side?
