VinFast India launch and production delayed, but why?
VinFast has delayed its India debut plan and production timeline by a month. The latest delay has been reported online recently, raising eyebrows of potential customers and local vendors regarding the company’s India plans.
Speaking of the reason, the company has claimed that it has been setting up the sales network, which has taken more time than estimated, hence a delay of one month has been announced.
Earlier, the brand was supposed to start the local assembly at its upcoming Thoothukudi production facility by June 30. Now the production timeline has been pushed to July 31. This has also created a cascading effect, which has resulted in the launch being pushed by one month.
Moreover, the pre-bookings for the upcoming VF7 and VF6 electric cars have been pushed to mid-July. Earlier, the pre-bookings were destined to begin from mid-June itself. Similarly, the deliveries are now expected to take place in August 2025.
VinFast has also reduced its annual sales target. The company has now set a new target of selling 3,000 units annually in India.
Our verdict
The delay in the production and sales plan by VinFast does not look odd. However, the reduction in the annual sales target and prolonged time for setting up the sales network hint that the brand is indecisive about the Indian market. Moreover, the company has globally reported a sixth consecutive quarter of loss.
