Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market, with plans to launch its first EVs around Diwali 2025. The company will introduce the VF7 and VF6 electric SUVs, both of which were showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year.
VinFast VF7: A premium electric SUV
The VF7 will be VinFast’s flagship offering in India, positioned in the mid-size electric SUV segment. Designed in collaboration with Italy’s Torino Design, the VF7 features a sleek coupe-inspired profile, a wide LED light bar, and a muscular stance.
Globally, the VF7 is available in two variants:
- Eco – Front-wheel drive, 172 bhp and 250 Nm, powered by a 75.3 kWh battery with a 450 km range.
- Plus – All-wheel drive, 344 bhp and 500 Nm, offering a 431 km range.
The VF7 will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7, and BMW iX1 LWB, making it a strong contender in the premium EV space.
VinFast VF6: A compact Urban EV
The VF6 will be VinFast’s volume-driven model, targeting urban buyers. Measuring 4,238 mm in length, it will rival the Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE6.
The VF6 will also come in two variants:
- Eco – 172 bhp, 250 Nm, powered by a 59.6 kWh battery, offering a 399 km range.
- Plus – 198 bhp, 250 Nm, with a 381 km range.
The VF6 will feature a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, connected car tech, and Level 2 ADAS, making it a tech-forward choice for city commuters.
VinFast’s India strategy and charging network
VinFast has partnered with Tata Power to establish a nationwide charging network, ensuring fast-charging infrastructure for its EVs. The company’s new plant in Tamil Nadu will initially produce 50,000 units per year, with plans to scale up to 150,000 units annually.
Bookings for the VF7 and VF6 will open in June 2025, with deliveries expected to begin by the end of the year.
Our thoughts
VinFast is making a bold entrance into India, and the VF7 and VF6 look promising. The sleek design, long-range capability, and premium features make them strong contenders in the EV space.
If VinFast gets the pricing right, it could shake up the Indian EV market. Now, all that’s left is to see how these SUVs perform on Indian roads!
