Written by Nizam Shaikh

Iconic Italian brand Vespa & Parisian couture house Christian Dior commonly known as Dior have joined hands to produce the ‘Vespa 946 Christian Dior’ scooter which pays tribute to both the heritage design houses, coincidently founded in the year 1946 through its subtle graphic design and artistic motif that reflects the French luxury goods brand.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior edition is based on the standard Vespa 946 scooter which was introduced in 2013 and draws its design inspiration from the Vespa prototype MP6 produced in 1946. The Vespa 946 is powered by a single-cylinder 125cc, 4-stroke, 3-valve, air-cooled engine with electronic fuel injection and adheres to modern gas and noise emission standards. The scooter is made on a dedicated production line and the crafted parts are fitted piece by piece manually.

The Vespa 946 features a classic streamlined design with modern-day features such as LED headlamps with satinised ‘946’ moniker inserted in the rounded headlamp unit, sweptback headlamp dome, stylish wing-shaped handlebar covers, aluminium brake levers, body-coloured mirrors, a raised nose in the centre with three horizontal gills, front apron mounted turn signals, spacious footboard with rubberized grips, a raised centre spine with rubber paddings, an upswept seat with a small pillion seat, a tail rack, vintage-styled fan-shaped wheels, rounded LED combination tail lamp, backlit illuminated digital instrumentation.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior edition comes with white body paint and features gold finish mirror stays, gold finish handlebar grips with gold accented bar-end weights, gold-accented body beltline, golden luggage hooks with Christian Dior logo design, Christian Dior motif on the side panels, Dior’s motif printed on the side of the seats, a gold cap under the seat, gold finish rear tail rack and gold accented rims. The seat is made using real blue-leather with ton sur ton seams and the same material is used on the handle grips as well. The Vespa 946 Christian Dior edition can also be ordered with matching luggage from the Parisian couture brand printed in the brand’s motif along with a matching helmet and a top box.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior scooter was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections and the scooter is made in Italy, adhering to the exacting standards, commitment and precision of the couture atelier.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior will be available from spring 2021 in Dior boutiques worldwide and subsequently in select Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores.
