As per the recent notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the date has been extended for the validity of motor vehicle documents like registration certificates, fitness and permit certificate, driving license. All the documents which have been expired since 1st February 2020, will be now valid till 31st March 2021. This decision has been taken by the Indian Government to curb the spread of the virus as the cases are on a rise. Also, there are reports of a different strain being spread from the United Kingdom which is known to infect people very rapidly.

This move will help the commuters to stay at home and avail the services when the cases decrease in near future. This is the fourth time that the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has issued a notification to extend the validity of the vehicle documents. In August, the union government had declared that the documents will be valid until 31st December 2020, but now the date has been revised to 31st March 2021.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has developed a user-friendly website to offer all the necessary services. Through this website, people can avail online services like applying for learning and driving license, vehicle fitness certificate, apply for NOCs and more. There is also a facility on the website where citizens can get the choice registration number for their new vehicles and the track the progress through a proper and transparent auction process. Apart from this, traffic violators can now check their challan details online by either entering their challan number or vehicle number or even driving license number.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highway is making use of all the latest technology to provide a seamless and hassle-free service to the citizens. Recently, there was a notification stating to make FASTag mandatory for all the vehicles starting from January 1st 2021. This is a great move as it has been proved how FASTag can regulate the traffic jams at the toll plazas and reduce the travel time on the highways to a great extent.
