Renault Kwid EV – What to expect?
Not long ago, a Kwid electric test car was spotted during a city test run in Chennai. Now, once again, the Kwid electric test mule has been spotted in Chennai, while being transported on a flatbed truck.
Unlike the previous spy shots, where the test car was heavily camouflaged, the new spy shots reveal the rear design details.
The hatchback, which shares its underpinnings with the Dacia Spring EV, has the Y-shaped LED taillights, which are usually seen on recent Renault cars like the Kiger.
Another detail includes the steel wheels and rear wiper, which hints that the car seen here is a top-spec trim.
While Renault sells the electric Kwid in select global markets, its India launch is yet to be determined. The French carmaker is currently focused on bringing its star product Duster SUV, back to India soon.
However, the Kwid EV test mule shows that there might be a subsequent ongoing development for an entry-level EV. The affordable EV space in India has huge potential, of which MG Comet has already taken advantage.
As far as the battery specs are concerned, the Kwid EV is sold with a 26.8 kWh battery pack globally. It offers a max range of up to 220 km, whilst buyers can choose between two power output options: 44 bhp and 64 bhp.
Our verdict
The Kwid electric, if launched in India, will make a strong case for itself. Its conventional design, spacious cabin, and decent range will cumulatively attract buyers looking for a city-friendly electric car.
