Upcoming Hyundai Tucson for India scores 5-star Euro NCAP crash test rating

Written by Nizam Shaikh

The Hyundai Tucson has achieved a full 5-star rating at the European NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). The SUV achieved an 86% score for Adult Occupant Protection, 87% for Child Occupant Protection, 66% for Vulnerable Road Users and 70% for Safety Assist Systems. The brand is likely to bring Hyundai Tucson to the Indian market as well. The Hyundai Tucson will continue with the same safety package for the Indian market. This leads us to believe that the high safety score will also be valid for the Indian market.

2021 Hyundai Tucson – Standard Safety Features

A 2021 five-door LHD model was put through the crash test, which featured standard safety equipment. This included Driver and Passenger frontal airbags, seat belt pretensioner and load limiter. Safety features also included centre airbags, side head airbags, side chest airbags and side pelvis airbags. The SUV also comes with an ISOFIX child seat anchorage system on the rear and Autonomous Emergency Braking for vulnerable road users (Pedestrians and Cyclists), Car-to-Car AEB, speed assistance and lane assistance.

2021 Hyundai Tucson – Crash Test Report

During the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment of the Hyundai Tucson remained stable. The test results show good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger while protection to the driver’s chest was marginal. In the side impact test, critical body areas got good or adequate protection. The car also comes with a centre airbag to mitigate occupant to occupant injuries in the event of a lateral collision. The test also demonstrated good results on the whiplash protection. The Hyundai Tucson also comes with an advanced emergency call system that alerts the emergency services in the event of a crash. The SUV also applies brakes after a collision to prevent secondary impacts.

Hyundai Tucson in India

Test mules of the fourth-generation Tucson are already traversing the Indian roads. This leads us to believe that the South Korean brand plans to launch the car in India by early 2022.
