Hero electric dirt bike – what to expect?

As seen in the design patent image, the dirt bike is powered by a battery and an electric motor. It has a minimalistic design with a slim body to keep it lightweight for better off-road performance.

The interesting bit is the position of the battery at the front, whilst the electric motor is mounted towards the centre of the bike. The rear wheel is connected through a chain drive system.

Design-wise, it gets a single seat and an upright riding position with long-travel front suspension and a monoshock at the rear. The spoke wheels are draped in knobby all-terrain tyres for better grip.

The braking duties are done by disc brakes on both ends; it is likely to feature a dual-channel ABS with switchable modes. However, it does not get a big screen for the console. In spite of this, it features a small display in the centre of the handlebar.

We are assuming that this motorcycle will not become a road-legal bike; rather, it will be used in the rally motorsports events by Hero. It comes as no surprise that Hero has stakes in the US-based Zero Electric, and it might have used their resources to develop this e-dirt bike.

More details are likely to be revealed in the coming months as Hero will share its future roadmap for the next fiscal year.

Our verdict

Hero MotoCorp, similar to other Indian two-wheeler brands, is focusing on the electric segment. However, the dirt bike seen here is not going to be a part of the sales plan for the mass market but more of the future motorsports plan.
