New-gen Hyundai Creta hybrid engine details
While the Creta remains the top-selling car in India as well as in Hyundai’s portfolio, it still lacks the hybrid engine option, which rivals like Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder offer.
However, the brand is now developing the third-generation Creta, which is codenamed SX3. The upcoming generation model is scheduled to arrive in India by 2027, and it will offer a hybrid engine as well.
As far as the details are concerned about the hybrid powertrain, it is believed that Hyundai will offer a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine to match with a parallel-hybrid system. However, the exact specs and power are unknown as of now.
Along with the new hybrid powertrain, Hyundai will continue offering the current engine portfolio, which includes the 1.5-litre petrol with turbo and without turbo, and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel.
The same hybrid engine is also likely to power the next-gen Kia Seltos, which is currently under development and is scheduled to debut in India in 2026. More details about the hybrid powertrain are likely to be revealed in the coming months.
Our verdict
While Hyundai cars are known for their feature-rich packaging and smooth driving experience, these cars are not particularly frugal to drive, especially the petrol versions in the city. Hence, a strong hybrid engine option will turbocharge the sales numbers as there is already high demand for the Creta in India.
