Now we all have seen the list of signs that the driving or riding motor schools hand out to us, and I’m pretty sure most of us have not gone through them thoroughly. But come on.. should we only blame officials for not being strict in enforcing this? I know I didn’t go through all of them for my driving test. But let’s be real, understanding these signs are important for road safety.

Traffic signs are silent speakers on the road. Be it the person behind the wheel or pedestrians, having sound knowledge about these signs is absolutely necessary before hitting the roads. They give important information about the road ahead, weather to approach with caution or limiting speed; traffic signs can be life savers.

To take you through, there are primarily three different types of traffic signs:

1. Mandatory Signs: Mandatory Signs are must follow signs! They have law connected to them. Violation of Mandatory sing is a legal offence. The category includes all signs which are obligatory, prohibition or restrictions. Some of the signs are as follows:

2. Cautionary Signs: These signs are usually warning signs, they warn motorists of certain hazardous conditions or upcoming adjacent roadways so one can approach with caution. Some of the signs are as follows:

3. Inflammatory signs: Inflammatory signs give general information like distance and destination. They help identify historical, geographical and public facility locations like eating places, hospitals or even direction towards a destination. Some of the signs listed below:
