Written by Nizam Shaikh

UM Motorcycles are expected to update their Renegade series of motorcycles with ABS equipment as new safety standards will be enforced soon. There has been no confirmation about the same from UM Lohia Motors, but the two-wheeler brand should update motorcycles before June 2019.

UM currently sells:-

  • Renegade Sports S
  • Renegade Commando
  • Renegade Commando Mojave
  • Renegade Commando Classic

Some reports suggest that UM will soon be introducing the Renegade Duty S and Renegade Sports S Vegas Edition which were showcased in 2018 Auto Expo. UM is also expected to bring in the adventure segment – DSR Adventure 200, DSR Adventure 125 and the Chill 150 scooter in the Indian market.

The Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sports are powered by a 279.5cc, liquid-cooled, four stroke engine that produces 23.7 PS of power and 23 Nm of torque on the carburetor models and 25.15 PS of power and 23 Nm of torque on the fuel-injected model. Both engines are coupled to a constant mesh 6-speed gearbox.

The Duty S is powered by a 223cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine that produces 17.2 PS of power and 17 Nm of torque.

The suspension used by all the bike is a telescopic front and a twin sided spring on the rear. Other than ABS, the motorcycles will not receive any changes. The BSVI compliant engine may be launched next year as the carburetor models will be discontinued from April 2020.

The prices on the updated ABS equipped model will be up by INR 10,000-15,000 as the motorcycle is expected to get a dual-channel ABS setup.
