Ultraviolette Vs. Harley-Davidson X440, there’s a problem!

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Ultraviolette has formally opposed Hero MotoCorp for using the X440 name for it’s made-in-India Harley-Davidson X440.

X440 is quite similar to its trademark

Back in September 2022, the Bangalore-based startup filed for a trademark. This was for the same X44. This name has since been accepted by the Indian Trademark and Patents Office.

Just two months later, Hero MotoCorp filed for the X440 name. At present, the status of this is remarked as “opposed” on the online database portal. Hence it is yet to be accepted.

It is reported that Ultraviolette has filed a notice of opposition to Hero earlier this month. Now, Hero has 60 days to reply to this objection.

Ultraviolette F77 : More Details

The F77 electric motorcycle was launched at a price of INR 3.8 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in three variants – Airstrike, Shadow and Laser. Meanwhile, the highest-spec Recon variant is priced at INR 4.55 lakh.

The F77 has been designed by an all-Indian team at the Ultraviolette R&D center in Bangalore. In terms of design, one can describe the motorcycle as striking. The F77 further comes with sharp bodywork along with a mass-forward design. It gets a sporty riding stance. Ultraviolette has used lower-set clip-on handlebars on the F77, which also adds to the sporting personality.

Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson

Harley-Davidson & Hero MotoCorp have jointly developed and launched the X440 cruiser motorcycle in India. This is the most affordable Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be sold worldwide, and it will be available in 3 variants.

While the bike has been launched in India, production is expected to commence only from September 2023. The bike will be made at Hero’s Neemrana plant in Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the customer deliveries are planned in October 2023. Hero is currently working to expand the production capacity at the Neemrana plant.
