TVS testing an all-new electric scooter?

Written by Nizam Shaikh

TVS Motor Company could be testing a new electric scooter in the Indian market. According to sources, the new electric scooter is likely to position itself in the B2B and B2C segment, used for commercial purposes. The last-mile delivery segment is adopting electric vehicles thanks to the ease of use, low maintenance and cheaper running costs.

The latest-generation electric scooters are also equipped with fast charging technology reducing turn-around times. Also, the high torque powertrains are able to efficiently take the load demands in the commercial delivery segment. Electric vehicles in the commercial segment are also in line with various policies laid down by the government of India, to reduce fuel consumption and import as well as to reduce air pollution, especially in major metro cities.

TVS Electric Scooter – Design and Features

According to spy shots, the development mule will feature a long low-slung design with ample space on the rear as well as a generous footboard. Design details are currently sparse, but the brand is likely to use LED lights and a fully digital LCD dashboard. Other features may include an advanced telematics system that will allow fleet operators to track the e-scooter and also set riding parameters for the riders. The scooter is also likely to come with heavy-duty suspension on the front and rear to handle the weight of the cargo.

TVS Electric Scooter – Powertrain

Powering the new TVS e-scooter is likely to be the same powertrain as the TVS iQube. The iQube comes with a 4.4 kW electric motor capable of achieving a top speed of 78 kmph. TVS claims that the iQube returns a range of 75 km on a single charge. The TVS iQube comes with a 5A charger as a standard purchase. The 2.25 kWh battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in about 5 hours using the charger.
