Triumph teases Tiger 1200 for India, launch soon

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Triumph Motorcycles India will soon launch their flagship Tiger 1200 range in India. The Tiger 1200 is new from the ground up and features an all-new platform and engine. The flagship adventure bike will compete with the likes of Ducati Multistrada V4, BMW R 1250 GS/GSA and the Harley-Davidson Pan America.

The model is available internationally in two ranges – GT and Rally. New for this year is the introduction of the Explorer variants for the GT and Rally range. The GT range is a road-focused lineup with long-distance touring capabilities in comfort. Meanwhile, the Rally range is more off-road focused, so one can continue the adventures even when the roads end.

2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 – Explorer Models

In addition to the regular variants, both the ranges are available with the Explorer model. The Explorer models add a larger 30-litre fuel tank compared to the standard 20-litre tank. In addition to all the new electronics on the Tiger 1200, the Explorer models add even more.

The Explorer models get a Continental radar system as standard. The radar system enables a blind spot monitoring system and a lane change warning system. Radar technology on motorcycles debuted on the Ducati Multistrada V4. However, unlike the Multistrada V4, the Tiger 1200 Explorer does not get a forward-facing radar. Hence, it misses out on adaptive cruise control.

2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 – Powertrain

The highlight of the new Tiger 1200 is an all-new engine. The bike now features the new ‘T-Plane’ crank first seen on the Tiger 900. The new 1160cc three-cylinder engine also has an identical bore and stroke to the new Speed Triple 1200. However, Triumph says this is an entirely new and different engine. The new engine produces 150 HP and 130 Nm of torque. The power is up by 9 HP than the old bike.

2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 – Expected Price

Prices for the Tiger 1200 models start at GBP 14,600 MSRP in the UK. The range-topping model comes with a price tag of GBP 19,100 MSRP. Triumph could bring the complete lineup to India via the CBU route. Hence expect premium pricing for the models, especially for the Explorer models.
