Toyota Yaris hatch continues testing, should we get the GR Yaris?

Toyota’s Yaris nameplate has had a renowned reputation across the globe, including the Indian automotive market, for many years. The sporty Toyota Yaris hatchback has made a name for itself among the international markets among the masses. People in India have spotted the fourth-generation version of the Yaris hatchback multiple times. Recently, an enthusiast spotted the test mule in Delhi as it most likely underwent durability and performance testing.

Toyota India has not announced any details regarding the launch of the Yaris hatchback. Currently, Toyota India sells rebadged versions of Suzuki cars such as the Glanza and Urban Cruiser. Based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Vitara Brezza, respectively, Toyota aims to launch the rebadged Maruti Ciaz. Known as the Belta, the mid-size sedan will replace the recently discontinued Toyota Yaris sedan. The sharing and launching of rebadged cars are part of Toyota’s global partnership with Suzuki.

Toyota Yaris hatchback: Design DetailsĀ 

The fourth-gen Toyota Yaris sports an all-new exterior design with LED projector headlamps based on the spy shots. Along with integrated LED DRLs, the Yaris features a beefy bumper, LED rear taillights, and a roof-mounted spoiler. Toyota has ensured to wrap most of the exterior parts of the test mule prototype of the Yaris hatchback. Underpinning the Yaris hatch is the Japanese automaker’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture)- B platform, making it 50mm wider. The Yaris hatchback sports a 50mm longer wheelbase, 60mm increased width, a height of 150mm, and a length of 3940mm.

Toyota Yaris hatchback: Powertrain DetailsĀ 

Toyota India is likely to offer the Yaris a choice of three petrol powertrains used in Europe. If the automaker does launch it in India, the Yaris will only offer petrol engines with no diesel option. The 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine produces 72 PS of power and 93 Nm of torque. The 1.5-liter non-hybrid motor produces 118 PS and 140 Nm, whereas its hybrid version produces 116 PS and 120 Nm. The hybrid version also sports an electric motor on the front axle producing an extra 79 PS and 141 Nm.

Toyota Yaris hatchback: Highlighting FeaturesĀ 

Toyota offers an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity on the European spec Yaris hatchback. Additionally, the Yaris features a 4.2-inch MID screen, connected car tech, automatic headlamps, and wiper, along with four airbags. Other notable features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors, along with automatic AC.
