Toyota Fortuner and Legender get Neo Drive 48V variants
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched new Neo Drive 48V variants of the Fortuner and Legender, marking a significant upgrade in the premium SUV segment. The 48V mild-hybrid system enhances fuel efficiency, acceleration, and overall refinement, making these SUVs more eco-friendly without compromising performance.
Neo Drive 48V: How it works?
The Neo Drive 48V system pairs Toyota’s 2.8L turbo-diesel engine with a belt-integrated starter generator and lithium-ion battery. This setup provides:
- Boost Assist, delivering smoother torque delivery for better acceleration.
- Smart Idle Start-Stop, which automatically shuts off the engine at idle, improving fuel economy in city traffic.
- Regenerative braking, which charges the battery during deceleration, reducing energy loss.
Despite the hybrid assist, Toyota assures that the payload capacity, durability, and off-road capability remain unaffected, ensuring the SUVs retain their rugged DNA.
Feature upgrades and pricing
The Fortuner Neo Drive 48V starts at INR 44.72 lakh, while the Legender Neo Drive 48V is priced at INR 50.09 lakh (ex-showroom). Both models now come with:
- Multi-Terrain Select, optimizing traction for different off-road conditions.
- 360-degree panoramic camera, improving visibility in tight spaces.
- Wireless smartphone charger, ensuring convenience on the go.
- Neo Drive badging, symbolizing Toyota’s commitment to progressive performance.
Safety and ownership benefits
Toyota continues to prioritize safety, equipping the Neo Drive variants with seven airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill Assist Control. The vehicles also get Child Restraint System and Speed Auto Lock with Emergency Unlock.
Additionally, Toyota offers five years of complimentary roadside assistance, a standard 3-year/100,000 km warranty (extendable to 5 years/220,000 km), and customizable Toyota Smiles Plus service packages.
