Toyota Innova Crysta’s future after Innova Hycross launch

Written by Kanad Kalasur

It looks like Toyota India has removed the Innova Crysta from the company’s official website. It is not yet known if the car maker has removed the listing for updating or discontinuing the model entirely.

Future of the Toyota Innova Crysta

Earlier reports indicated that Toyota would continue to offer the Crysta, albeit in a petrol model. Then, it was said that diesel models would be sold, but in limited numbers. Now, with the car missing from the official website, it has yet to be discovered what the Japanese carmaker has in store for the Innova Crysta.

That said, one more reason for not discontinuing is the fact that the Innova Hycross has moved up a segment and if the Crysta is stopped, it will create a void in the company’s line-up.

Toyota Innova Hycross

Earlier this week, Toyota unveiled the Hycross for the Indian market. The new Innova Crysta replacement offers the proportions of an SUV while delivering the spaciousness of an MPV. Bookings for the car have now commenced with a token amount of INR 50,000.

Unlike the earlier car, the Hycross gets a monocoque chassis and front-wheel-drive layout. In contrast, the Innova Crysta was a proper ladder-on-frame design with a rear-wheel-drive layout.

The Hycross is also not offered with a diesel engine. Instead, the car has an electric-hybrid powertrain. The strong hybrid powertrain gets a 2.0-litre engine and Toyota Hybrid System. The combined output of this system is 186 PS and a claimed fuel economy of 21.1 km/l. The petrol-only version too comes with a 2.0-litre engine, but the power is limited to 174 PS.

What is going to happen to Innova Crysta?

While it is too early to speculate, there are two options that could happen. Firstly, the listing from the website could have been taken down for the purpose of updating. Or Toyota plans to phase out the Innova Crysta altogether.
