This is the Indian Army-spec Tata Safari Storme with a soft-top

The Safari from Tata Motors is quite an icon in the Indian car market. Yes, it not quite a popular SUV at the moment in our market, but it has its fair share of fan following. Now, Tata Motors has revealed the Indian Army-spec variant of the Tata Safari Storme which comes with a soft-top. This Army-spec Safari Storme was showcased at the Defence Expo in Chennai.

Tata Motors has got a contract from the Indian Armed Forces to deliver more than 3,000 Tata Safari SUVs. Deliveries for the GS800 5-door have already begun.

The Safari Storme Soft-Top for the army comes with a 2.2L, turbocharged diesel engine producing 140 HP of power and is matched to a 5-speed gearbox with 4WD as standard.

Based on the GS800 Army-spec Safari Storme, this now soft-top version has a 3-door body style. This has a seating capacity for 5 in 2+3 configuratipn and comes with a payload capacity of 825 kg. The GS900 Safari Storme on the other hand is a hard-top version with AC & payload capacity of 800 kg with a 5-door layout.

This Army-spec Safari Storme soft-top was equipped with MECS (Mobile Emergency Communication System). With a Network in Box system, this MECS can be converted to a LTE base station and can be deployed within 15 minutes.
