Tata Zest Revotron petrol accounts 50% sales

The Zest compact sedan from Tata Motors is off to a good start in the Indian market. Waiting periods going longer suggest that the demand for the Zest is on the higher side than Tata would have expected. Till date, Tata has delivered over 13,000 units of the Zest to the customers.

Interesting bit of news is that the new 1.2L Revotron petrol motor accounts for 50% of the sales. Regardless of a winning formula of a diesel engine mated to an AMT gearbox, people prefer the petrol motor in equal numbers.

The Zest’s petrol motor, dubbed as Revotron, is the companies first turbocharged petrol powerplant. It delivers 90 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque along with three driving modes – Sport, Eco and City.

This reason for this trend of petrol engines being preferred is due to the falling prices of petrol. The gap between petrol and diesel is far less now and most buyers do not find the initial investment on a diesel car sensible anymore.
