Tata Motors has launched the Tiago NRG which is a cross hatchback version of the standard Tiago with a minor update. The new update concerns the transmission on the Tiago which is now available with an AMT option in the petrol variant. The petrol Tiago NRG AMT is priced at INR 6.15 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi which is INR 45,000 more than the petrol manual variant.

The Tiago NRG was first introduced in September 2018 and has a few rugged features over the standard Tiago such as body cladding, roof rails, faux skid plates, higher ground clearance as compared to the standard Tiago, etc. Other features on the Tiago NRG are manual AC, fabric upholstery in contrast stitching, all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, remote locking, height-adjustable driver seat, power steering with tilt adjustment, 14-inch steel wheels with covers, etc.

The Tiago NRG is powered by two engine options and their technical specifications are given below:-

Petrol-

  • 1,199cc, three-cylinder, Revotron petrol engine producing 85 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual and now available with AMT (Automated Manual Transmission), with multi-drive modes.

Diesel-

  • 1,047cc, three-cylinder, Revotorq diesel producing 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with multi-drive modes

Both the engines are BSIV compliant and the diesel engine is likely to be axed when the strict BSVI norms are enforced in April 2020. The petrol engine is likely to be upgraded to conform with the new emission standards.

The Tiago NRG petrol manual costs INR 5.70 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi and the diesel manual variant is priced at INR 6.55 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.

In related news, spy shots of the Tata Tiago in camouflage have emerged on the internet which leads us to believe that Tata is likely to update the car soon. The highlights of the expected update are likely to be on the interior where the car could receive, refreshed upholstery, larger 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple Carplay and Android integration, new trim colours, etc. The new Tiago will also receive safety upgrades such as a driver side airbag, seat belt reminder for both driver and co driver, an over-speed alert, reverse parking sensors and ABS as standard across all variants.
