Tata Punch Kaziranga Edition – What is it?

Written by Akhil Dalvi

Indian automaker Tata Motors launched its micro-SUV, the Punch, in October 2021 with resounding success among customers throughout the country. By crossing the 10,000 unit sales mark, the Punch has become Tata Motor’s 2nd best-selling car after the Nexon. The Punch is also Tata Motor’s 2nd SUV from its portfolio that scored a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Since the Tata Group is the official sponsor of the 2022 IPL season, the automaker revealed the Punch Kaziranga Edition.

2022 Tata Punch Kaziranga Edition: What is it?

The Kaziranga Edition is an exclusive one-off version of the Punch that Tata Motors has created specifically for IPL 2022. Likely based on the top-spec Creative trim of the Punch, the Kaziranga Edition features a unique Meteor Bronze colour scheme. It still retains the majority of the exterior details from the standard Punch except for the special Rhino badges.

Tata Motors has placed these badges inside the rear windscreen and glovebox, taking inspiration from the one-horn rhinos from Assam. The automaker will auction the exclusive Punch Kaziranga Edition for fans and donate the proceeds at Kaziranga National Park. Tata Motors also states that the exclusive SUV embodies the spirit of the wild to tackle India’s rough terrains.

2022 Tata Punch: Overview

Tata Motors offers the standard Punch in 4 trims – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative, starting from INR 5.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The Punch sports 7 colours – Tornado Blue, Calypso Red, Meteor Bronze, Atomic Orange, Tropical Mist, Daytona Grey, and Orcus White. Along with offering Rhythm and Dazzle customization packs, Tata Motors offers a single powertrain for the Punch with 2 gearbox options. The Punch uses a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine with the automaker’s latest Dyna-Pro Technology and a ram-air intake.

This allows the Punch’s engine to produce 86 PS and 113 Nm via the 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearboxes. The Punch utilises Tata Motor’s signature ALFA architecture with an industry-first ‘Traction Pro’ system and unique 90-degree opening rear doors. Additionally, the SUV also gets City and Eco driving modes along with an automatic start/stop system to enhance efficiency. The micro-SUV also sports a 7-inch Harman infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple Carplay along with iRA Connected Car Technology.
