Tata Motors has unveiled the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The Nexon iCNG is a concept vehicle that showcases the company’s vision of offering a CNG fuel option with usable boot space.
Nexon iCNG – What to Expect?
The Nexon iCNG concept is based on the recently facelifted Nexon SUV, which is one of the best-selling models in the compact SUV segment. The Nexon iCNG features a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is seamlessly integrated with a factory-installed twin-cylinder CNG kit. The engine is capable of producing 118 bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque. However, we are not certain if there will be a dip in performance owing to the CNG fuel.
The Nexon iCNG also comes with a host of CNG-specific features, such as a single advanced engine control unit, a micro switch, a modular fuel filter, leak detection, and failure prevention, direct start in CNG mode, leakage-proof materials, thermal incident protection, and an auto fuel switch. These features ensure safety, efficiency, and a smooth transition between fuel modes.
Usable Boot
The Nexon iCNG also boasts of a useable boot space of 230 litres, which is quite impressive for a CNG vehicle. This is achieved by using a split cylinder design that can hold a combined 60 litres of CNG. The spare wheel is attached to the bottom of the boot, as seen on the other Tata CNG models like the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz.
The Nexon iCNG concept is expected to be launched shortly, as Tata Motors has stated that it plans to introduce CNG variants in segments where diesel could be discontinued in the future. Once in production, this will be the first turbo-charged vehicle to feature CNG as an alternate fuel.
The Nexon iCNG is not the only attraction at the Tata Motors pavilion at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. The company is also showcasing the Harrier EV, the Curvv concept SUV, and the Altroz Racer concept at the event.
