Tata Nexon EV prices go up by INR 25,000

Written by Akhil Dalvi

Renowned Indian carmaker Tata Motors has announced a price hike of INR 25,000 on all Nexon EV variants. The Nexon EV will now cost between INR 14.54 lakh (ex-showroom) and INR 17.15 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Currently, Tata Motors offers the Nexon EV in 5 variants – XM, XZ+, XZ+ LUX, Dark XZ+, and Dark XZ+ LUX. Meanwhile, speculations are that Tata Motors will introduce a long-range version of the Nexon EV in the coming months.

Reasons behind the price hike and incentives

Tata Motors, along with other OEMs, typically share similar reasons before introducing an eventual price hike on their vehicles. This includes the rise in commodity costs of raw materials and to cover the increase in shipping costs as well. Another speculated reason behind Tata Motors’ price hike is due to the supposed launch of the Nexon EV long-range.

Reports suggest that this upcoming Nexon EV will cost more than the outgoing version due to having a larger 40kWh battery. However, interested Nexon EV customers can avail benefits of around INR 2.5 lakh thanks to FAME II norms. Additionally, customers can also avail of the early bird incentive of INR 1 lakh, that’s only valid till March 31st, 2022.
