Tata Motors has unveiled its electric SUV, the Nexon EV. The new Nexon EV was under road trials and according to Tata, the electric vehicle has been tested in India for around 1 million km in various conditions. Tata says the car has been not only made in India, but made for India.
The Nexon EV is based on its sibling with an internal combustion engine, the Tata Nexon, and shares its design cues with the latter. The Nexon EV sports the manufacturer’s Impact Design 2.0 and gets a new grille design with a gloss black applique on the front complemented by a teal blue treatment that runs from headlight to headlight. The car gets a twin pot headlamp cluster with LED daytime running lamps and a projector main beam. The front bumper houses a fog lamp with matte black housings along with a blue accented trim and the lower grille is detailed with blue tri-arrows. The Nexon EV has a matte black plastic cladding on the sides which would offer some protection from stone chips. The light blue theme continues on the side below the window sill from the A-pillar to the C-pillar of the car. The Nexon EV gets turn signal indicators in the wing mirrors and just below that is the ‘EV’ badging which suggests that the car is powered by electricity. The rear of the car has a 3D design tail lamp and continues with recessed reflectors on the bumper and a faux silver skid plate. The Nexon EV gets a white roof with silver roof rails and a shark fin antenna. The electric vehicle rides on 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and 215/60 rubber.
On the interior, the Nexon EV comes with a tri-arrow themed seat trim which is 6 way adjustable on the driver side and 4 way adjustable on the co-driver side. The centre fascia has a 7-inch touchscreen Harman infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB connectivity, SMS readout, voice commands, smartphone-based navigation system etc. The car also gets digital-analogue instrument panel with a 7-Inch colour Multi-Information Display.
In terms of the exterior dimensions, the Nexon EV is 3994mm in length, 1811mm in width, 1607mm in height, a ground clearance of 205mm, 2498mm of wheelbase and a turning circle radius of 5.1 meters.
The Nexon EV is powered by a Liquid-Cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion liquid-cooled battery pack rated to IP67 standards. The powertrain can develop 129 PS of power and 245 Nm of torque coupled to a single-speed transmission and the manufacturer claims a range of more than 300 km on a single charge. The car can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 9.9 seconds and has a front-wheel drive. The Nexon EV has two charging modes, namely fast and regular the fast charger can achieve an 80% state of charge in 60 minutes and the regular charging time takes 8 hours from 20% to 100% when plugged into a 15A socket.
Safety-wise the Nexon EV gets a driver and front passenger airbags, seat belt reminder for the driver and co-driver, speed sensing auto door lock, perimetric alarm system, child locks, ISOFIX seats, fog lamps and cornering lamps.
The Tata Nexon EV will be available in three variants XM, XZ+ and the top end XZ+ LUX. The base variant will be available in single tone colour and the other two variants will have twin tone colours. The Nexon EV comes Signature Teal Blue, Moonlit Silver and Glacier White.
The pre-bookings on the Nexon EV will start from 20 December 2019 at the amount of INR 21,000/- and the car is slated to be launched in January 2020 and is expected to be priced between INR 15 lakhs to INR 17 Lakhs and will come with a warranty of 8 years and 1,60,000 km.
