Tata Motors has taken a significant step forward in automotive design by filing a patent for a new dashboard layout for the Tata Sierra SUV. This move highlights Tata’s commitment to blending innovation with practicality, setting new benchmarks in the Indian automotive market.
New design philosophy
The patented dashboard layout showcases a minimalist design philosophy. It features a dual-screen setup, with a fully digital driver display and a horizontally mounted touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment screen is expected to support connected car technology, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
One of the standout elements of the design is the rotary dial positioned below the push start/stop button. While its exact function remains undisclosed, it is likely to control various vehicle settings, adding a futuristic touch to the cabin. The dashboard also includes sleek AC vents, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal.
The steering wheel design, borrowed from Tata’s Harrier and Safari models, features a four-spoke layout with a backlit logo. This detail adds a premium feel to the interior. The patent images suggest that the passenger-side screen, showcased in the concept version of the Sierra, may not make it to the production model. However, it could be reserved for higher variants.
Tata Sierra SUV dashboard design
The new dashboard layout aligns with Tata Motors’ focus on offering advanced features and a premium experience. The Sierra is expected to come equipped with a wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and multi-color ambient lighting. Safety features are likely to include up to seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Tata Sierra SUV competition and powertrain
The Tata Sierra, which revives an iconic nameplate, is anticipated to launch later this year. It will compete with models like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, offering both manual and automatic transmission options.
