Written by Parichay Malvankar

Tata Harrier now gets a 5-year warranty. Tata Motors has announced a new Pentacare Warranty package for the Harrier SUV which comes under the extended warranty package. This 5-year warranty is valid for unlimited customers, so this should allow for some peace of mind to Harrier owners. The Harrier comes with a base 2-year warranty package and now owners can extend their warranty period for an additional cost of INR 25,960. However, one has to avail for this service within 90 days from buying the harrier SUV.

Now the obvious question is what is covered under this warranty package. The Harrier Pentacare Warranty covers the engine, engine management system, AC unit, gearbox and transmission components, fuel system with fuel pump, the instrument cluster with MID and more. It seems like Tata Motors have taken feedback from the initial sales and are now accounting for these parts under warranty. For parts relating to the clutch, suspension and related manfunction; Tata motors will offer a warranty till 50,000 km.

With most of the expensive stuff being covered under warranty, time will tell if this boosts the sales performance of the brands most talked about SUV.

Built on the OMEGARC chassis which is a derivative of the Land Rover D8 platform, the Tata Harrier SUV is the most advanced SUV ever from the brand, however it does not get 4×4 yet. The brand has a smart traction control system though which will be enough to pull out the car from tricky situations. At the moment, the Harrier comes with a 2.0L diesel engine producing 140 PS of power. However, after the BS VI update, this power output is expected to be bumped up to 170 PS, and match the Jeep Compass which is sharing the same engine.

The Tata Harrier is facing stiff competition from new rivals such as the Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Hyundai will very soon come up with the new-generation Creta SUV.
