The automotive market is abuzz with the recently unveiled coupe SUVs: the Tata Curvv and the Citroen Basalt. Both vehicles promise to bring a fresh wave of innovation and style to the segment, but how do they stack up against each other? Let’s delve into a detailed comparison of their specifications, design, engine options, and features.
Design and Aesthetics
The Tata Curvv adopts a minimalist design approach, characterized by sleek and connected light bars at the front and rear, giving it a modern and aggressive look. The shoulder line flows seamlessly from front to back, complemented by petal-like alloy wheels surrounded by black wheel arches. The front fascia features webbed grilles, adding to its distinctive appearance.
In contrast, the Citroen Basalt boasts an edgy and robust design language. It features split-headlights connected to the twin-chevron logo via a double-slat grille. Citroen’s unique design philosophy is evident in the Basalt’s well-defined lines and fresh rear-end design. The alloy wheels are sleek and balanced, with similar wheel arches to the Curvv.
Engine Options and Specifications
The Tata Curvv will be available in both petrol and diesel configurations. The petrol variants will offer a choice between a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that is capable of producing 120 hp and 170 Nm of torque, and a new 1.2-litre Hyperion TGDi engine that produces 125 hp and 225 nm of torque. The diesel variant will feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine which will produce 118 hp and 260 Nm of Torque. All the variants can be paired to a 6-speed manual or a DCA transmission. Additionally, an electric version of the Curvv is also available which the Basalt does not have.
Powering the Citroen Basalt are two engine options. You can either choose the Puretech 82 – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 82 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine also does duty on the Citroen C3 which is also sold in the Indian market. The Basalt also comes with the option of the Puretech 110 – a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 110 PS of power and 190 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter type automatic gearbox. Apart from the electric, the Basalt also misses out on a diesel powertrain.
