Tata Motors a few days back launched the Curvv.EV and unveiled the Curvv ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) coupe SUV in the Indian market. The brand however has not yet revealed the pricing of the Curvv ICE. But, the powertrain specifications of the Curvv ICE have already been revealed and it comes it both petrol and diesel engine options. Now, a media report suggests that the car manufacturer could be planning to launch the Tata Curvv ICE with CNG Bi-Fuel options as well.
Tata Curvv CNG – Revotron or Hyperion
According to reports, the CNG powertrain is under “active consideration” however, the brand has not yet confirmed its launch in the Indian market. But speculation is that the Tata Curvv could come with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is likely to come with the CNG fuel option fitted from the factory. The 1.2-litre engine that is likely to come with the CNG option is the Revotron engine that already does duty on the Nexon and other Tata passenger cars and not the new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol direct injection Hyperion engine. It is also possible that Tata is offering two 1.2-litre turbo-petrol option just so that one could be further offered with a CNG option. This also leads us to believe that the Tata Nexon is likely to come with a CNG option by 2025.
Competition and Launch
The CNG Tata Curvv will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Hyryder which are already available in the Indian market with CNG powertrain options. While the prices for the ICE Curvv are scheduled to be announced on the 2nd of September this year, the CNG version is likely to make its debut during the festive season or early next year.
Currently, the Tata Curvv.EV comes with a starting price of INR 17.49 lakh ex-showroom. While the Curvv ICE is likely to come with a price tag lower than the EV counterpart, the CNG model is likely to be somewhere mid-spec.
