Tata Altroz Racer Review

Written by Parichay Malvankar

Tata Motors recently launched the new Altroz Racer in the Indian market. The hot hatchback from Tata Motors comes with a powerful turbo-petrol engine, ALFA architecture, suspension tuned for both the roads and race track as well as visual enhancements to make the car more appealing.

Tata invited us to the Manchester of Southern India, Coimbatore to test the new Altroz Racer in the picturesque hills & valleys of nearby Coonoor and Ooty as well as CoAST High Performance Centre an FIA Grade 2 automotive testing and racing track in Coimbatore. We even got the chance to interact with India’s first Formula 1 Racing Driver, Narain Karthikeyan, who has been part of the Altroz Racer development team.

Narain also gave us some insights about the Altroz Racer’s track performance which helped us learn the car better on the track during our own hot laps. In addition to this, we also drove the car around the city, highway and on the beautiful roads of Ooty and Coonoor for over 200 km, so that we could understand all the dynamics of the Altroz Racer and bring you a comprehensive review of the car.

Engine Specifications

Powering the Altroz Racer is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The engine produces 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Unfortunately, the Altroz Racer is not yet available with an automatic transmission option like its direct competitor the Hyundai i20 N Line.

Racing Colours

All the colour options come with a dual tone theme with bonnet, roof, A-, B-, and C-pillars as well as the spoiler blacked out. The roof and bonnet also comes with two racing stripes and the car also features ‘Racer’ badges on the front fenders. Even on the inside, the Altroz Racer distinguishes itself from the standard by offers Racer-specific upholstery and accents on the dashboard. The Altroz Racer also comes with digital instruments cluster as well as an HD touchscreen infotainment system.
