Tata Motors’ Altroz Racer has clinched the coveted title of ‘Fastest Indian Hatchback,’ officially recognized by the India Book of Records. The achievement was marked by a lap time set by none other than India’s first Formula 1 racer, Narain Karthikeyan, at the CoASTT Racing Track in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
The Record-Breaking Lap
In a thrilling time attack challenge, the Tata Altroz Racer went head-to-head with its immediate rivals—the Hyundai i20 N Line and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Turbo. On June 5th, 2024, the Altroz Racer completed a lap around the CoASTT Race Track in an astonishing 2 minutes and 21.74 seconds. This feat secured its position as the fastest Indian hatchback.
Altroz Racer: Beyond the Speed
The Altroz Racer isn’t just about raw speed; it’s a well-rounded package that combines performance with practicality. Here are some key highlights:
- Powertrain: The Altroz Racer features the i-Turbo+ powertrain, delivering an impressive 120 PS of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque. This potent engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox—a first for the Altroz lineup.
- Suspension Tuning: Tata engineers fine-tuned the suspension to strike the right balance between sportiness and everyday usability. The Altroz Racer maintains the standard Altroz’s characteristics for regular roads while providing an exhilarating experience on the race track.
- Unofficial Titles: Even before this official recognition, Altroz Racer had garnered several unofficial titles, including being the first Indian hatchback with ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and a 5-star crash rating.
India Book of Records Confirmation
On June 12th, 2024, the India Book of Records officially awarded the Altroz Racer the title of ‘Fastest Indian Hatchback.’ Dr. Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury, Chief Editor of India Book of Records, signed the accolade, cementing the Altroz Racer’s place in automotive history.
