Tata Altroz gets expensive, new XE+ variant added

Indian automotive manufacturer Tata Motors has added a new XE+ variant in the Altroz line-up, replacing the previous XM variant. Positioned above the base XE trim, the XE+ now features a Bluetooth Audio system, a fast USB charger, and keyless entry. Tata Motors also offers manually adjustable ORVMs, follow-me-home headlamps, and a climate control system on the new XE+ variant. Compared to the previous XM and XM+variants, the Altroz XE+ misses a few features. These include a rear parcel shelf, wheel caps, and rear speakers.

2021 Tata Altroz: Design and Price 

Tata Motor has priced the base XE variant of the Altroz at INR 5.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The newly introduced XE+ petrol and diesel cost INR 6.35 lakh (ex-showroom) and INR 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The top-spec XZ+ i-Turbo Dark Edition trim of the Tata Altroz costs INR 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom). Tata offers the standard Altroz with 5 colours- Harbour Blue, High Street Gold, Downtown Red, Arcade Grey, and Avenue White.

The Altroz uses Tata’s ALFA-ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) platform along with its Impact 2.0 design philosophy. At the front, the premium hatchback sports sweptback projector headlamps, integrated radiator grille, bumper-mounted fog lamps with integrated LED DRLs. Other exterior elements include darkened LED tail lights, C-pillar mounted rear-door handles, integrated rear spoiler, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The distinctive top-spec i-Turbo Dark Edition sports an exclusive Cosmo Dark colour scheme.

2021 Tata Altroz: Powertrain Highlights 

For the standard Altroz, Tata Motor offers a choice of a petrol or diesel engine. The 1.2-liter, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder motor produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel motor produces 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. Tata Motors offers the standard Altroz with City and Economy driving modes.

In early 2021, Tata Motors introduced the i-Turbo variant of the Altroz, which features a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Producing 110 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque, the Altroz i-Turbo also gets an additional Sport mode. All variants of the Altroz, including the i-Turbo variant, feature a 5-speed manual gearbox with no automatic transmission option.

2021 Tata Altroz: Features Highlights 

Tata offers several features on the interior of the Altroz, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system features Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity with more than 70 Hindi, English, and Hinglish commands. Additionally, the top-spec XZ+ Altroz features ‘What3Words’ commands, remote connectivity via IRA smartphone application, a wearable SmartKey, and steering-mounted controls. Other features include Xpress Cool climate control, a rear parking camera, and premium leatherette textured upholstery.
