Tata Motors has been successful with its all-electric Nexon EV, which has found more than 4,000 homes in just 14 months. The Nexon EV holds more than 60% market share in the electric vehicle segment. Now the brand is planning to expand the electric vehicle game by introducing the Altroz EV in India.

Altroz EV – Larger Battery and Longer Range

Reports suggest that Tata is setting up another production line to manufacture the Altroz EV. In addition to this, sources report that the brand will be adding the battery capacity on the Altroz, offering 35% – 40% more range on a single charge compared to the Nexon EV. In the future, Tata is also likely to introduce the larger battery pack on the Nexon EV as well.

Tata Altroz EV – Powertrain

Powering the Tata Altroz will be a Ziptron electric powertrain that also does duty on the Nexon EV. This leads to speculation that the Altroz EV will come with a 129 PS power and 245 Nm torque electric motor with IP67 dust and water resistance compliance. The electric motor comes with a single-speed gearbox. The powerful yet efficient electric motor is capable of propelling the Nexon EV to a top speed of 120 kmph. The Altroz is also likely to come with a similar top speed.

Tata Altroz EV – Battery

The brand employs a 30.2 kWh battery on the Tata Nexon EV capable of 312 km of an ARAI approved range on a single charge, tested on the MIDC test cycle. Currently, the specifications of the larger battery [ack are unavailable, but we speculate that the larger battery will be around 45-50 kWh. The MG ZS EV features a 44.5 kWh battery pack and delivers 419 km of range on a single charge. The larger battery pack on the Altroz EV will reportedly come with a range of 500 km on a single charge.

At the Auto Expo 2020, Tata Motors had showcased a near-production model of the Altroz EV in Delhi, India.
