The Jeep Grand Cherokee which was launched a decade ago has finally got a new generation update for the international market. The 2021 Grand Cherokee L, as evident from the name, has a longer wheelbase which will help add a third row of seats for the first time. The 5th generation Grand Cherokee having two rows is expected to be launched later this year. The 2021 Grand Cherokee is based on the Grand Wagoneer concept which was showcased last year. From the outside, it retains all the trademark Jeep elements like the 7-slat grille integrated neatly with stretched LED headlamps, a massive bonnet and the long boxy body structure does give the Grand Cherokee a very dominating road presence as well. In the rear end, the twin exhaust along with the beltline which continues between the tail-lamps gives it a very sleek yet elegant look. On the interiors, Jeep will offer all the standard pieces of equipment along with some additional feel-good features like; a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen system loaded with Jeep’s latest Uconnect operating system, the new 10.25-inch digital cluster can be configured to provide a host of driver-related information, wireless charging, a rotary dial to select the transmission type, digital rear-view camera, traffic sign recognition, night vision camera, drowsiness detection, HUD and more. Jeep has also offered an optional air suspension by which the SUV can be raised to a maximum of 60 mm and lower it by 46 mm. The SUV will be available with both 6-seat and 7-seat configuration. Grand Cherokee will be powered by either a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol motor cranking out 290 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque or a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 petrol oil burner making 357 HP of power and 530 Nm of twisting force. Jeep India had confirmed recently that it is planning to launch a total of 4 new SUVs by 2022 and one has already been launched, the Compass facelift. The Grand Cherokee L which will be built locally is also likely to hit the Indian roads and the expected launch date is around early 2022.
