Suzuki has released its plan for electrification in India. The first electric scooter from the Suzuki stable will be launching in India by 2025. This scooter will be competing with a small to mid-size motorcycle used for daily use like commuting.
More details on Suzuki’s electric scooter
While the wording says motorcycle, it’s likely that Suzuki is planning an electric scooter. Further, we already know that Suzuki is already working on an In-house EV for India. This was disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the plans have now been pushed ahead.
Suzuki has also been testing an electric version of the popular Burgman in India. This scooter has been spotted on Indian roads multiple times. However, it is not sure if it is in fact the electric Burgman that Suzuki plans to release or is just testing the electric components hidden inside the body of the Burgman.
We must wait and watch to see what Suzuki actually does.
Other Japanese electric scooters coming up
With many new players coming with electric scooters, most of the legacy bike makers have not yet released a proper alternative to these offerings by rivals. Even the Honda’s Activa EV is slated for a 2024 launch. Unlike others, these scooters will be aimed at being good daily drivers instead of performance oriented designs.
TVS is also planning EVs in the future
Indian maker TVS is also working on launching new electric offerings in the next 18 months. The competition in the electric scooter segment is quite aggressive. The company is planning to launch a few more all-electric offerings in the two-wheeler segment. At an investors’ meeting, K N Radhakrishnan, CEO and Director at TVS, revealed the plans. According to the plans, the Indian bike maker will launch many EVs in the next 18 months. The power output for these will range from 5 kW to 25 kW.
