Suzuki Vitara SUV spotted testing again

Written by Nizam Shaikh

The Suzuki Vitara has been spied testing in India leading us to believe that the car is under serious consideration for an Indian debut. The Vitara SUV has been spotted earlier, and continues road testing on our soil either for product testing and evaluation, or components testing for another model maybe.

The Suzuki Vitara has been spotted sans camouflage and the SUV features projector headlamps with blue elements, vertical oriented LED daytime running lamps on the bumper along with chrome inserts, large lower air dam, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, wraparound taillights, reflectors on the bumper and faux skid plate effect on the rear bumper.

The test mule was seen without badging or stickers and was in the black paint on the outside and spy pictures of the car show a black finish on the interiors too. The black interiors are complemented with silver accents, circular air vents and centre mounted large touchscreen infotainment screen, 4.2-inch MID with twin pot analogue instrumentation console, etc.

In the engine department, it is expected to get two petrol engine options that are globally available, the specifications of which are as follows:-

  • 1.0-litre 3-cylinder 12-valve turbocharged BoosterJet engine that develops 111 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission and an option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
  • 1.4-litre 4-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged BoosterJet engine with 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission

For India, the brand is likely to employ both the 1.0-litre and the 1.4-litre engines with an optional all-wheel-drive system. In terms of its exterior dimensions the Vitara measures in at 4,175 mm length, 1,775 mm in width, 1,610 mm in height with 2,500 mm wheelbase and 185 mm ground clearance.

In terms of competition, the Suzuki Vitara, when launched, might compete with the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta in the Indian market. To effectively compete in this segment the SUV is expected to be priced between the INR 10 lakh to INR 18 lakh range.
