Suzuki Swift Sport caught testing with ADAS tech in India

Written by Kanad Kalasur

A test mule of the Suzuki Swift Sport has been spotted testing in India. The car appears to be under evaluation with the ARAI.

What’s new on the Swift Sport?

The test mule was fitted with radars for ADAS features. The car was right-hand drive which means it was imported from some other right-hand country to India.

As the Sport name suggests, the car is a powerful version of the regular Swift. It features an aggressive body kit, new design alloys and a more powerful engine.

In terms of performance, the car is equipped with a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. This motor develops 127 BHP and 235 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission.

ARAI testing of the Swift Sport

The test mule of the Swift Sport was having a BYE number plate. This registration number belongs to ARAI and is used on cars under evaluation. Automotive Research Association of India is a Pune-based organisation that was set-up to meet the development requirements of the automobile industry. Apart from research, ARAI also undertakes homologation tasks for the vehicles on sale in India.

It is also possible that Maruti has brought in the test mule to consider adding ADAS tech to other cars on sale in India. ADAS features include lane keep assist, radar-based smart cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking amongst others.

Next-gen Maruti Swift and Dzire

According to a media report, it looks like the next-generation Maruti Swift and the Dzire could be offered with strong hybrid powertrains. These could offer fuel economy in the range of 30-40 km/l. Recently, the Japanese carmaker launched the Grand Vitara which is offered with a hybrid powertrain. This project was done under collaboration with Toyota.

If the new Swift and Dzire could offer fuel economies of around 30-40 km/l, they would get the title of most fuel efficient cars in the market.
