Suzuki has taken off the wraps of the new middle-weight streetfighter. The GSX-8S was unveiled at the 2022 EICMA show in Milan, Italy.
Design of the GSX-8S
The bike has a unique design, with the headlight cowl getting a sharp styling. It also comes with pointed fuel tank extensions and an upswept tail. At first glance, we can notice that the design language is shared with the GSX-S1000. At the same time, the GSX-8S gets its own identifying features.
The LED headlight is stacked, while the rear brake light has been integrated into the number plate holder. Suzuki is offering a choice of three colour options on the bike – blue, white and black. Also on offer are accessories, including soft luggage options, LED indicators, crash protection, a pillion seat cowl and heated grips.
It gets a 14-litre fuel tank, and the kerb weight of the bike is 202 kg.
Engine of the GSX-8S
The GSX-8S is powered by a 776cc, 270-degree parallel twin engine. The motor is rated at 81.8 HP @ 8,500 rpm and 78 Nm of peak torque @ 6,800 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also gets Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist feature that increases the engine rpm when starting from a standstill.
Electronics Package of the GSX-8S
Suzuki has equipped the GSX-8S with a host of electronic aids. These include a bidirectional quickshifter, three riding modes, three traction control settings and dual-channel ABS. Details of these are visible on the new 5-inch TFT display.
Brakes and Suspension of the GSX-8S
Suzuki has given the GSX-8S 17-inch cast aluminium wheels shod in Dunlop Sportmax RoadSport 2 tyres. At the front, it gets upside-down shock absorbers, while the rear comes with a monoshock. Both are sourced from KYB. Dual 310 mm brakes handle braking duties at the front and a single 240 mm disc at the back. Dual-channel brakes are standard on the bike.
Competition and launch in India
While Suzuki has not yet revealed details about the Indian launch, it is expected to arrive on our shores sometime early next year. It will head up against the likes of the Ducati Monster and the Triumph Street Triple R.
