Skoda’s new compact SUV for the Indian market has been spotted in near-production guise. This unnamed compact SUV is expected to make its debut in the first half of 2025.
The compact SUV segment is one of the most competitive automotive segments in India. Despite low margins, it offers high volumes, making it a lucrative category for car manufacturers. Skoda’s entry into this segment is expected to intensify the competition.
Design and Dimensions
The upcoming Skoda compact SUV will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, similar to the Kushaq and the Slavia. However, it will feature a shorter wheelbase to fit into the sub-4m segment. The length of the SUV will be reduced by about 230 mm compared to the Kushaq. The design is expected to follow the familiar Skoda design language with a split headlamp setup, a slatted grille design, and clear surfaces. It is to the Kushaq what the Venue is to the Creta. In short a baby Kushaq.
Interior and Features
Skoda is expected to equip the upcoming SUV with more features than what it currently offers in the Kushaq and Slavia. Features like a 360-degree camera and an ADAS suite will be part of the package. The interior is expected to bear a close resemblance to the Kushaq’s.
Skoda’s New SUV – Expected Powertrain and Specs
The compact SUV will be powered by Skoda’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. The engine is known for its responsiveness, refinement, strong acceleration, and good fuel economy. The 6-speed manual and the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes will also be carried over.
The new car is expected to support Skoda’s annual brand sales target of 100,000 cars in India by 2026. It will go up against the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and the updated Mahindra XUV 3XO once launched.
