Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI automatic launch in September 2020

Skoda India recently launched the 2020 Skoda Rapid BS6 with a new 1.0 TSI that replaced the 1.5-litre TDI diesel and the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engines with the new turbo-petrol motor and the Rapid was launched only with a manual gearbox on offer. But now, Zac Hollis, the brand’s Director – Sales, Service & Marketing at ŠKODA AUTO India Private Ltd. through the brand’s official social media platform has revealed that the Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI will be available with an automatic gearbox on offer. 

Currently, the Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI is powered by a BS6 emissions-compliant 1.0-litre Turbocharged Stratified Injection (TSI) petrol engine that makes 110 Ps of power and 175 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. The predecessor was powered by a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre petrol engine that produced 103 Ps of power and 132 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission. 

Through the brand official, social media account it has also been revealed that the gearbox will be a torque converter type and the model will be introduced to the Indian market in September this year. 

The Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI is offered with features such as dual-barrel projector headlamps, integrated LED lamps, chrome bezel vertically slated grille, bumper-mounted fog lights, blacked-out B-pillars, rear roof antenna, dual-tone interiors, analogue instruments with digital multi-information display, control mounted steering wheel, leatherette seat upholstery, 16.51-cm touchscreen infotainment display in the centre of the dashboard, 20.32-cm Skoda infotainment system with Android on higher-spec models, rotary knobs for the climate control air conditioning, rear AC vents etc. 

The 2020 Rapid 1.0 TSI is priced starting at INR 7.49 lakh ex-showroom, India, available in five trim variants – Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style and the top-trim Monte Carlo, priced at INR 11.79 lakh ex-showroom, India.

The 2020 Skoda Rapid competes with the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the Indian market.
