Czech automotive manufacturer Skoda has announced its Indian annual sales report for February 2022, which documents its total sales. The report states that Skoda sold a total of 4,503 units which showcases a massive 428% increase in growth. For comparison, the automaker sold a total of 853 units during the same timeframe in February of 2021. Meanwhile, Skoda aims to maintain its momentum of increasing sales after recently launching its all-new Slavia premium mid-size sedan.
Reasons behind the increase in sales & future plans
Skoda India stated that it will strive to continue this positive momentum in 2022 via its ever-expanding portfolio for customers. The automaker states that the majority of sales during February 2022 were driven primarily by its Kushaq SUV in India. Skoda launched the Kushaq back in July 2021 as the first product under the Volkswagen-Skoda India 2.0 strategy.
The SUV uses the made-for-India MQB-A0-IN platform along with the signature 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. Meanwhile, Skoda launched the all-new Slavia 1.0 TSI sedan under phase 2 of its India 2.0 plans. Additionally, the company also launched the Slavia 1.5 TSI with enhanced engine and performance traits on March 3rd, 2022.

Recently, numerous sources suggested that Skoda will replace the wheel bearings under warranty on its India-spec Kushaq SUV. Reports claim that this replacement is only meant for the Kushaq that sports a select VIN which has not been revealed. Sources continued by stating that customers have the option of calling Skoda’s helpline number to confirm their SUV’s eligibility. Once the recall has been confirmed, Skoda will re-route the eligible vehicles to the CRM of their respective dealerships.
During the 2nd week of February 2022, Skoda confirmed the discontinuation of the Kushaq’s Style variant with 2 airbags. Skoda India’s Director of Sales & Marketing, Zac Hollis, confirmed the news of the discontinuation via microblogging site Twitter. When Skoda first introduced the Kushaq in 2021, the Style trim had the 2 and 6 airbag options. The company decided to discontinue the variant in order to compel its customers to opt for the safer 6-airbags option.
