Written by Akhil Dalvi

Skoda India has announced to end production of its most sold mid-size sedan, the Rapid in India. The decision to end the Rapid’s 10-year production run comes after Skoda’s plan to debut its replacement, the Slavia. Debuted in 2011, Skoda offered the Rapid with a variety of engine and gearbox combinations along with features. 2020 saw the Czech automaker introduce the Rapid’s facelift in India after the introduction of the BS6 emission norms.

2022 Skoda Rapid – Powertrain

Skoda offered the facelifted Rapid with a new BS6 compliant 1.0-liter TSI petrol engine with no diesel engine option. Paired to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, the engine produces 110 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque. Skoda plans to end production of the Rapid by selling the last batch of its limited Matte Edition variant. Skoda priced the Matte Edition at INR 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the manual and INR 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Matte Edition Skoda Rapid

The Rapid is also the first car in its class to receive the matte treatment and has a dedicated fanbase. The Rapid is also Skoda’s most successful car in India with over 1 lakh customers, many of whom are enthusiasts. For the Matte Edition, Skoda equipped the Rapid with a black radiator grille and new blacked-out lip spoilers. Along with a black diffuser and tailgate spoiler, the Rapid features black body side molding for enhancing its sporty looks.

The color scheme Carbon Steel matte also extends to the ORVMs and door handles. Additionally, the Matte Edition also features 16-inch black alloy wheels finishing the overall exterior look to make it a head-turner. Skoda has ensured to match the interiors of the car with the exterior by offering a Tellur Grey color scheme. The interior of the Matte Edition includes black leatherette upholstery with Alcantara inserts and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Skoda Rapid Features

Other interior features offered are a USB-powered air purifier, a rear-view camera, and steel scuff plates with the Rapid lettering. In terms of safety, Skoda offers the Matte Edition with high-performance headlamps, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Other safety features include an anti-glare IRVM, a rear windscreen defogger with a timer, height-adjustable three-point seatbelts, and an engine immobilizer.
