Skoda Auto India has revealed the name of the new compact SUV which will be launched soon in the Indian market. In the recent past, the Skoda has launched a national “Name Your Skoda” campaign in India with a nationwide engagement of over 200,000 entries. This resulted in a selection of names starting with a ‘K’ and ending with a ‘Q’ which is traditional for Skoda’s internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs.
Nomenclature Inspired by Mount Kailash
Now the brand has announced that the name of its upcoming compact SUV will be Kylaq. Short listed from over 24,000 unique names, the name Kylaq means Crystal and is derived from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. The name reflects the pristine qualities of the vehicle and is inspired by the mighty Mount Kailash, revealed Skoda Auto India. The Skoda Kylaq is positioned as an “SUV for You” as revealed by the brand’s teaser video available to watch on Skoda’s official YouTube channel.
The Platform
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq compact SUV will be based on the MQB-AO-IN platform which has been developed in India and underpins the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. The MQB-AO-IN has been specifically developed for India by teams in India and the Czech Republic. However, the focus of the platform is not just localization and low maintenance cost but also versatility, dynamics as well as safety. The Indianised platform also brings with it a hassle free ownership experience.
Compact Yet Spacious
The All-New Compact-SUV Kylaq will come with a “Modern Solid” design language. The compact SUV also comes with a high ground clearance and ample space around the wheel wells to to traverse over rough road condition without trouble. In addition to this, the Skoda compact SUV will also come with a typical Skoda’s front fascia and hexagon patterns on the side and rear of the vehicle as well as precise LED DRLs on the front. Thanks to the larger MQB-AO-IN platform the brand reveals that the compact SUV will come with a smaller footprint yet have spacious interiors.
Name Your Skoda Prize
Skoda also announced that the winner of the Name Your Skoda campaign will be receiving the first Kylaq vehicle to roll off the production line in 2025 and other 9 among the 10 finalist will win an exclusive trip to Prague.
