  • Customer Demand: The decision to bring back diesel engines is driven by continued customer interest in diesel cars.

Škoda showcased the new-generation Superb 4X4, powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine. Why bring Škoda diesels back?

The decision to reintroduce diesel engines comes in response to continued customer demand. According to Petr Janeba, head of Skoda India, up to 80% of Skoda cars sold in the past were diesel models. Despite the global shift away from diesel engines, Indian customers still show a strong preference for diesel cars due to their fuel efficiency and low running costs.

Skoda’s return to diesel is a significant move for the Volkswagen Group, which had faced challenges following the Dieselgate scandal. The reintroduction of diesel engines is expected to benefit Skoda and other group companies like Audi.

Other Škoda Cars at the Expo

In addition to the Superb 4X4, Skoda showcased several other models at the expo, including the Octavia vRS, the new-generation Kodiaq, and the futuristic Vision 7S concept. The company’s pavilion highlighted its commitment to sustainability, advanced mobility solutions, and European design.

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 provided Skoda with an excellent platform to reconnect with its customer base and showcase its evolving portfolio of ICE and EV vehicles. With a diverse lineup of models, Skoda aims to attract new customers and strengthen its position in the Indian market.

Our Thoughts

The company’s decision to bring back diesel engines is a bold move that reflects its commitment to meeting customer needs. The new-generation Superb 4X4 is a promising start, and we look forward to seeing how other models like the Kodiaq perform in the market.
