Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has earned yet another sustainable development certification. This time, the DQS India Pvt. Ltd has decided to award them with the distinguished ‘Net Water Positive’ certification for implementing gold-standard initiatives to conserve and replenish water across all the manufacturing facilities located in Chakan, Pune and Shendra, Aurangabad

An Overview

Along with water conservation, the company has also implemented various other initiatives like zero liquid discharge, setting up of sewage plants and building an in-house effluents treatment and recycling facility at their manufacturing facilities. To leverage the heavy downpour during the rainy season, the company has set up rainwater harvesting structures that claim to harvest up to 80% rainwater underground.

The Current Scenario

SAVWIPL has partnered with the International Association for Human Values (IAHV) to set up projects which aim at saving over 2,220 m3 of water annually. The company has put on a target to increase its net contribution of water conservation from 1:1.05 to 1:3 annually in the coming 4 years. Under the ‘Green Future’ philosophy, the company’s main aim is to fully source its energy requirement from sustainable sources like biogas, hydropower, wind and solar. The target is to be 100% reliant on sustainable sources of power over a period of 4 years from now. Both the manufacturing plants feature natural and LED lights which reduces the power consumption to a great extent. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has also planted over 23,000 trees in both its manufacturing facilities which sends a  strong message about their commitment towards protecting the environment.

The Road Ahead

The future of the company in India will heavily depend upon the response of the multiple car launches scheduled for this year. The brand will first unveil mid-size SUVs – Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, which are both based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which has been developed specifically for the Indian market. The company will also look into adding more conservation certifications by integrating modern and holistic environment protection approaches and set itself as an example of the ideal car manufacturing company in India.
