A strong competitor in the sub 1 lakh rupee performance motorcycle segment is now fading away with new competition entering the Indian market. The TVS Apache RTR series is now almost a dated looking product and lacks the punch which the new generation performance bikes are offering.
Rumours now suggest that TVS is working on not just one, but three versions of the Apache. This is apart from the TVS-BMW 250cc motorcycle which will be revealed in late-2015.
TVS Apache 210cc (X21):
- 210cc, single-cylinder motor
- Power output more than 30PS
- All-aluminium engine
- 6-speed gearbox
- Lighter chassis and swingarm
- ABS
- Michelin tyres
- Split seats
TVS Apache 160cc (X16) & 180cc (X18):
- Bump in power & torque figures by 10% compared to the current output
- New light-weight swingarm
- Michelin tyres for X18
- Combi-brake system
Bikes are expected to take heavy design inspiration from the Draken concept revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. If the specs are anywhere close to what is being rumoured, TVS could surely gain back the momentum it has lost in the performance segment.
The X21 could be priced under Rs. 1.5 lakh while the X16 & X18 would see a marginal increase in prices compared to the current generation models.
