Rumour! Maruti Suzuki to launch 6-seater ‘Ertiga Sport’

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the sportier variant of the Ertiga MPV in India, is what the rumour mill has been saying for months. The MPV has received the 1.5-litre diesel engine recently and a new top-spec variant is reported to be under development for India. Not still sure what Maruti Suzuki will name the car in India, but it is highly likely to be called ‘Ertiga Sport’.

The Ertiga Sport is available on sale in the Indonesian market and features an aggressively designed bumper with a faux splitter and skid plate on the front, side skirts and a spoiler on the rear. The front bumper also includes some chrome accents and the car has a chrome element grille with a unique design. The headlights are in twin-pot layout and features a projector headlamp and LED daytime running lights on the front bumper. The fog lamps are also integrated on the bumper with a large air dam. The alloy wheels are of new design with a diamond cut finish.

The interior on the Ertiga Sport is all black with faux woodgrain trim and it is expected that have a floating touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system, automatic climate control air-conditioning, flat bottomed steering wheels with controls and an analogue instrument console with digital MID. The Ertiga Sport may come in a six-seater layout in India, with captain seats in the middle row.

The Ertiga Sport is expected to launch with the new 1.5-litre DDiS diesel engine which produces 94 BHP of power and 225 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual. The other option could be a 1.5-litre petrol Smart Hybrid engine that produces 103 BHP of power and 138 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter type automatic gearbox.

The Ertiga Sport is expected to cost around INR 50,000 more than the current top-spec Z+ variant. It remains to be seen if the top-spec ‘Ertiga Sport’ model will be sold in the Maruti Suzuki Arena or the premium Nexa dealerships.
