Royal Enfield has announced that the brand will be commencing local assembly of Royal Enfield motorcycles in Argentina in partnership with Grupo Simpa, the brand’s local distributor in the country since 2018. The local assembly unit in Argentina will be based at Grupo Simpa’s facility located in Campana, Buenos Aires and will begin with the assembly of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650, starting this month.
The announcement is a turning point in the brand’s modern history as it will be the first time that Royal Enfield motorcycles will be assembled and produced outside the company’s manufacturing facilities in Chennai, India. Royal Enfield has chosen Argentina as it is one of the biggest mid-size motorcycle markets in Latin America. In 2018, Royal Enfield first set shop in Vicente Lopez, Buenos Aires and since then the company has expanded its retail network to 5 exclusive stores in Argentina. Furthermore, Royal Enfield has 31 exclusive stores and 40 other retail touchpoints in all the Latin American countries.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a BS6 compliant 411cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke SOHC fuel-injected motor that produces 24.3 Bhp of power and 32 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed gearbox with a wet multi-plate clutch.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650 are powered by a BS6 compliant 648 cc air/oil-cooled, 4-valve/cylinder parallel-twin, SOHC engine with twin throttle bodies with Bosch fuel injection and engine management system that produces 47 BHP of power and 52 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper assist clutch.
The brand also announced that the event for the local assembly announcement was graced by Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina.
In other news, the apparel division of Royal Enfield has partnered with Levi’s to bring the new capsule collection apparels in India that includes jeans and jackets made from high abrasion resistant CORDURA denim which is built to last and come with armour slots for shoulder, elbow & knee, a 3D pocket with a hidden zipper, high visibility reflective tape etc.
