Royal Enfield is planning to launch a number of motorcycles based on the tried and tested 650 platform. The company has already spawned the Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, Super Meteor 650 and the Shotgun 650 which are currently on sale in the Indian market. In the near future, the brand plans to launch the Classic 650, a Classic Bobber as well as a Scrambler 650 based on the same engine platform. Now, reports reveal that the company has filed design patents for the Scrambler 650 model which has been leaked over the internet and reveals the basic design highlights of the upcoming bike.
Leaked Patents
According to the leaked patent image, the Scrambler 650 which is also likely the be called Bear 650 is likely to underpin the chassis as well as some mechanical parts from the Interceptor 650. However, there are likely to be major differentiating factors such as upside down front fork suspension, which is going to be the first for this chassis type and a single exhaust unlike other 650 Twin models. Thanks to these the Scrambler 650 will differentiate itself quite well as well look like a proper scrambler motorcycle.
Design and Features
Overall, the silhouette appears to be quite similar to the Interceptor 650 but the keen eyed will notice a different taillamp and a new LED headlamp setup similar to the Super Meteor/Shotgun. The Scrambler 650/Bear 650 is also likely to come with a semi-digital instruments cluster with a Tripper Navigation system. The bike also appears to come with a single bench seat, an elongated fuel tank, triangular side panels, a sleeker number plate mount, a wide handlebar with a cross brace, rounded mirrors and fatter dual-purpose tyres.
Powertrain
Powering the Scrambler 650 is likely to be the same 648cc parallel-twin-cylinder, air-oil-cooled motor developing 47 BHP of power and 52 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. While, Royal Enfield may not completely offer a new gearbox with different ratio, we expect them to at least change the final drive ratio to better suit the Scrambler’s nature.
